New London Police / ContributedNEW LONDON — A woman was killed in a one-car crash that closed a local street Sunday afternoon, according to police.
The woman was identified as Margaret Larsen, 61, of Waterford, Capt. Matthew Galante, commander of the support services division for the New London Police Department, said Monday. Her next of kin have been notified.
New London police officers and firefighters responded to the area of Colman Street and Vauxhall Street around 2:52 p.m. Sunday for a report of a one-car crash, according to Galante. The driver, later identified as Larsen, was reported to be unresponsive, Galante said.
Larsen was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead, according to Galante. Members of the New London Police Department’s Investigative Services Division and Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene of the crash to investigate, Galante said.
Following the crash, the stretch of Colman Street between Vauxhall and Waldo streets was closed for a period of time Sunday, according to Galante. He said the roadway had reopened as of Monday afternoon.
