HARTFORD — Connecticut State Police identified the pilot of the plane who survived a crash at Brainard Airport Saturday.

State police said Monday Scott Ling, 54, of East Hartford, was ejected from his Lancair four-passenger aircraft during the crash, which occurred shortly after taking off from Hartford-Brainard Airport about 3:30 p.m.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating and expected to release a preliminary report on the crash in the next few weeks. The full investigation will likely take 12 to 24 months, NTSB officials said.

Ling, who was the only person on board, was thrown from the plane during the crash but survived, according to the Hartford Fire Department, which responded to the airport. District Chief Mario Oquendo Jr. said the pilot was transported to the hospital with “some burns” and a possible fracture. Officials did not have an update on his condition Monday.
